Nokia - 6021 Review

6021

1st March 2005

The Nokia 6021 is a variation of the 6020 with one important enhancement - it has Bluetooth, and one thing removed - this digital camera. These changes transform the handset from the fairly uninspiring 6020 to the business-friendly 6021.

Why is the addition of Bluetooth such a big deal? Well, there's currently a gap in the market for low-end Bluetooth phones suitable for businesses who want simple, camera-free handsets to give to their staff.. a market niche that Nokia used to own with the Nokia 6310i which was discontinued last year. So, the announcement of the 6201 is timely because other manufacturers are moving in to the gap, for example Motorola with the C390 handset.

The 6021 is a basic, but functional phone, with a 128x128 pixel display in 65,000 colours, tri-band GSM, XHTML web browser, email client and PC synchronisation. It's a fairly lightweight device at 88 grams, but talktime is short at just 3 hours which isn't as good as the Motorola C390 and might well be a critical weakness with the Nokia 6021.

Still, the 6021 looks the part and it's not expensive at it 200 Euros/GBP140 unsubsidised price tag. The Nokia 6021 should start to ship in the second quarter of 2005.
