Vodafone to demonstrate fastest mobile data transmission service in a wireless network at CeBIT

Vodafone will be demonstrating an uplink with transmission rates of up to 1.45 MBits/s. This is possible thanks to the use of High Speed Uplink Packet Access Technology (HSUPA).

Vodafone customers at CeBIT with notebooks and the appropriate data card can test out data transmission at rates of up to 7.2 MBits/s. Hanover is the launching pad for next level 3G broadband. Transmission rates of up to 1.45 MBits/s make it possible to send photos and large files from any location or from the office at much faster rates than are possible with conventional broadband connections. Vodafone's CeBIT network partners for both high-speed services are Ericsson and Siemens.

Vodafone already has the most extensive 3G network in Germany. Its customers in over 2,000 towns and cities throughout the country already have 3G and 3G broadband with data transmission rates of up to 1.8 MBits/s. Faster transmission rates of up to 3.6 MBits/s are already available in all major cities and, in summer 2007, they will be available throughout the 3G network. Vodafone is supplementing its mobile data transmission services in rural regions with EDGE technology. This gives customers access to a transmission rate of 236.8 KBit/s.
