Nokia says yes to fuel-cell phones but not yet

Fuel-cell mobile phones are not right around the corner, according to one of the world's best-known manufacturers.

Nokia says it has tested the technology and it works. The problem is, though, their ability to get enough fuel cells to put them in enough phones to make a difference in the exploding cell phone market.

Fuel cells are certainly more environmentally friendly than batteries, which wear out quickly yet degrade slowly. Fuel cells are also a trifle more expensive at the moment, given that they need something like gold or platinum to generate the electricity needed to fire the fuel. They are also more time-consuming to make, at least for now.
