The secrets of BT Labs

Silicon.com reveals some BT Lab secrets from their showcase at London HQ - in a slide show displaying 5 different concepts related to TV on mobiles, future gadgets and VoIP conference calls.

Below, the iVine gadget, thought up by a focus group of 14- to 16-year-olds. The purpose was to get an idea of what kids want from their devices, rather than to come up with a model that would actually be built, so don't get your hopes up. This mock-up includes phone, music games and internet access.

Below, Push to TV - In the home the mobile phone can function as a remote control for the TV but when you go out press a button and the show is streamed via GPRS to the mobile instead. This idea is still in the development stage.

Also:

-- The Senate - VoIP technologies give the user the power to choose - in stereo - where the voice appears to be coming from, by moving the icons around on the screen.

-- A 'URU' voice authentication system

-- A giant fibre-optic microphone, with applications ranging from finding where your phone line is broken to testing jet engines.
