Description: Komodo National Park situated between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores is home to the famous Komodo dragons and sanctuary for many endangered species. Established in 1980, the area consists of three large islands: Komodo, Rinca and Padar and 26 islets. In 1986, the Park was declared a World Heritage Site and a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Other animals that inhabit the islands include the orange-footed scrub fowl, Timor deer, the native Rinca rat, water buffalo, wild boar (babi liar), wild horses (kuda liar), long-tailed macaques, the lesser sulphur-crested atoo palm civets, nosy friarbird, Russels pit viper, cobra, and fruit bats. It is also home to thousands of fish species, 70 species of sponges, and 260 species of exotic coral. Visitors will have fun scuba diving for the park is home to at least 14 species of whales, dolphins, manta rays, ocean sunfish, pygmy seahorse, clown frogfish, false pipefish, clown frogfish, and blue-ringed octopus. Komodo National Park is indeed one of its kind.
