Subject: guitar tips!

Im still in very early stages of playin, a mate has lent me his acoustic fender. Fingers hurt way too much at the moment to play for more than half hour at a time. Its slow goin at the moment :( but enjoyin it tho. Inspired by no one in particular, just a love of music an guitar based rock especially. Anyone recommend a good beginners exercise book?
