Subject: Shut Down Help

A couple of times ago when I gave the shut down command,it just wouldnt shut down..it did everything but the shutting down prompt went on n on for like nearly half hr.. i got so frustrated that i took out the battery. Done that 3-4times. Could that have caused a problem?
