Sounds like hardware to me. First I would check the bios to see if the cpu tem is running too high. If the temp is fine I doubt its the cpu. Your hdd is pretty old it could be going bad or the ram needs replacing. Personally I think it is the HDD. Anyways you can check for bad clusters/sectors by booting of your windows disk and going into the command console by pressing r. type chkdsk /f and see finds any bad clusters
