Tijn Islam, an Islam for the poor, reacted against the conservative, hierarchical Qadiriyyahbrotherhood then dominant, focusing on social reform and grass-roots Islamicrevival.During the first period, some of Shaykh Tijani's appointed khalifas established new Tijani centres abroad.
