Italy Investigates Two Suspected Ebola Cases in Milan as Health Authorities Urge Calm

Italian health authorities are investigating two suspected Ebola cases in Milan after two humanitarian aid workers returned from Uganda showing symptoms consistent with the disease, including fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. The patients have been admitted to specialized infectious disease facilities while laboratory tests are conducted to determine whether they are infected with the Ebola virus.

Officials stressed that the cases remain unconfirmed and that other illnesses, including malaria, are also being considered. Authorities in the Lombardy region have activated precautionary health protocols and increased surveillance measures while awaiting test results.

The alert comes amid a growing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, which the World Health Organization has classified as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The strain currently has no licensed vaccine or specific treatment.

Health experts emphasize that Ebola spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person and is not transmitted through the air.
