Buy some saucy half-naked man calendar, hang it in your workplace, type where topless firemen are holding giant hoses and a policeman is handcuffing a suspect while in hotpants, gauge his reaction.
Alternatively, just lie, say you just found out a mate you've known for years was gay the whole time without you realising and make a point of saying you're useless at telling if blokes are gay. Try to goad him into jokingly asking you whether you thought he was gay ;)
