it is still important to change the oil in the gearbox and also the differential and transfer case if you have a 4x4, its very easy to do plus you get an idea of the condition the gears are in by the debris that collects on the magnet which is on the drain plug and the colour of the oil that comes out,most people don't bother but it could save you a lot of money and headaches in the long run, most manual gearboxes should have the oil changed every 30 to 60 thousand miles
