I downloaded quickpic image viewer from the market, and one of the options was to unhide hidden photos. I had never hidden any photos before, but it seems to have gradually brought the photos back, albeit duplicated some. but yeah, at least they're back. The mysteries of the universe...anyway guys, thanks.
