Really thinking about buying a threadripper system to upgrade my 5820k system

Amd is a great workhorse now alot of value. I dont use it for much other than tweaking around and gaming so i would not benefit from more cores. Intel messed up with the thermal paste between the heatspreader and on the 2066 platform the cache amount is a joke. Atleast they gave the 8700k 12mb not 8.25mb lol. * +

The Thermal paste on all intels cpu's is a joke . De lidding them is the way to go if you want to overclock . * +

The core usage in games is still very little thats why i went for a 6 core. Rumors are intel will drop a 8 core in 9 months. I think 6 cores is good for many years to come seeing how slow games are taking on extra cores. The 8700k has a very high single core performance compared to others thankfully. Its funny the 7700k costs 350 euros here and my 8700k was 380euros so it was a easy choice. Only one store here has the 8700k in right now and has 2 more left after i sn*tched mine as they were still ordering them.

Icelake is due around mid 2018 and will be 8 core but a complete new socket again .Z370 will be probrably the shortest lived platform intel have ever made . Great cpu though and if you do more than gaming its great as you get the best of both . Above 1080p though your old cpu would have been just as fast

Would not want a new cpu on the same motherboard anyway it is better to get a new chipset and stuff with the next cycle of cpu. * +
