once again The USB connector has got 4 pins. outer 2 for 5V/Ground and inner 2 for Data (D+ and D-). You are just modifying the outer 2 pins/wiring, NOT THE INNER 2. * +

This is easy but you will need a 5V 1 Amp regulated DC Power supply/adaptor, a Multimeter, soldering iron and tools and a little know how of electronics. * +
