depends on the specific box but as they're all always connected most likely it should tell you when it's found an update and ask if it can go ahead and do it.
they're designed for people who don't want to be messing around with stuff themselves. * +

what is the brand and model ?

what do you find if you google the model and ''stopped working'' ?

if it was updating without you knowing it and you plugged it out or had a power cut, it could brick the device leaving it without an operating system.
also on the off chance you were running it off of your phone's data, your network could be blocking it. * +

I was running it off phone data and also mayve bricked it. Its A5X mini. I think Ill just get a new dongle instead. Too much bother to fix. Thanks * +

yeah you'd be doing gigabytes and gigabytes watching TV via your phone, they usually freak out if you're using too much. *
