There are at least three better codecs than FLAC since then. Don't ask me what they are, I am pretty sure they are not available on my laptop because I just recently heard of them. * +

Technically there are better codecs than MP3 too, except they are not supported like MP3 is. same for FLAC. It is pretty much like MP3 = JPG FLAC = PNG * +
