Bad thermosister, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new kettle than to fix the one you have.

Hint: Try boiling water without the top of the kettle sealed. * +

it doesnt switch off as in off- cos the switch dont trip down to off, the water just stops making noises * +

Just for fun, disassemble that kettle, I am sure You will learn something new, try to repair its thermostat. Net is your friend,,, better read /search about mechanical thermostats first... *
