Hi there mates, is it possible to install the above mentioned versions of WMP on windows 8? I have some video lectures purchased some time in 2012, really need to watch them but they're only compatible with wmp 10/11, which, If my memory serves me well, belonged to XP and Vista. Thanks * +

I don't have any .wmv files so I've not had this problem. But you've got a couple of options. Either try a free media player like VLC or convert the files to another format such as MP4 using something like convertx * +

Download VLC now.gif I used to recommend K-Lite Codec Pack which include an old but good version of WMP, but you don't want it now. Just about every site I have seen that hosts it put a bunch of malware in it. cry2.gif * +

SMPlayer for the win. K-Lite was never good. * +

K-Lite was good for a time, but it wasn't for amateurs. * +

Pick either:
1. MPC-HC with official standalone filterpack
2. SMPlayer front-end with either MPlayer or mpv as back-end
meditate.gif I personally recommend the portable/no-install versions good.gif
If you dare, you can build from source or use nightlies. okay.gif *
