As far as I have seen, Thumb drives (USB flash drive) are more reliable, but still, its a matter of luck. *

Both just reliable as one another depending on the brand really . I have had cheap usb drives die after a weeks use same as sd cards . A quality branded well made card /drive will last a long time . I still have a 256mb kingston drive i bought in 2001 that still works just fine . *

generally the sd card. as people tend to be more careful handling smaller things.
most people i know plug in a thumb, get what they want and pull the drive instead of using the remove drive option from the tray bar. while every 1 i know who uses sd card readers follows the correct removal procedure. end result is that the thumb drive will often brick quicker. *
