the standard resolution for most laptop screens is 1336x768 in the shops regardless of how much you pay. This has been the case for quite a few years now and yet they were never advertised as having hd screens then so why the change now? standard 720 hd is 1280x720 so does that mean my old dell inspiron from 2006 has a hd display because its resolution it has a 1280x720 display? I also have old laptops with 1336x768 screens * +

in my books hd is only a matter of screen resolution * +

I do realise that some laptops do have higher resolution screens, but the majority have been stuck on 1336 for ages now. my only gripe is why they have only recently decided to advertise them as being hd. * +

To be HD a screen has to be atleast 1920 x 1080 * +

yes for full HD, but 1280x720 is also classed as HD, the same resolution as seen in the first HD ready Tv's. Although one website I visited claimed that the reason most laptops are stuck on 1336 is cos a lot of people dont like the smaller texts and icons associated with a higher resolution. I guess you could argue the point in being able to fit more text on the screen pointless if its too small to read. But that may depends on the individuals eyesight, * +

iam lucky in that my eyesight is great close up even without glasses, but a lot of people have trouble close up, even people much younger than myself. * +

now if the manufacturers had advertised a laptop as having a HD screen in 2006 a lot of people may have laughed and questioned the point in it, since a lot of people were still using tube Tvs in 06' but now that the majority have got HD Tvs they also expect their laptop to have the same, abeit 720 as opposed to full HD. so in response the manufucterers suddenly decide to market their laptops as HD, when in reality they have actually been so for quite a few years! You see my point? So Iam inclined to think its all been a * +

so on the basis that they seem to be pushing this as new tech for laptops over the last few years, I believe its actually been a bit of a con all along. * +
