yes its an advertising stroke marketing issue as you say. once upon a time not many consumers had laptops because they were too expensive, back in the days when most people had desktop computers. of course now desktops are mostly confined to gamers. the laptop was once a yuppy tool especially in the 1990s where as today its commonplace. I bought my first laptop in 2002, 1.5ghz single core intel celeron, 128mb ram, 20gb hd, dvd rom drive, 4.3 aspect ratio screen, and no intergrated wireless. that cost me 950 english pounds sterling at the time. Over time I gradually upgraded the ram. * +

by the time I sold it on it had 1gb of ram, although not all of that was usuable because of the shared graphics. ram was expensive then which is why I didn't take it up to 1gb straight away, but windows xp didn't need much obviously, and the minimum ram requirement for xp was infact 128mb. *
