i wanna get an ssd to put my OS on. is this an easy task or what?. at the mo i have a 750gb 2.5 wd caviar black with everything on. i also have a seagate 2tb desktop hdd which i am currently putting my steam games on to make room on my 750gb.. how much room will i need for windows 8.1 OS? 120gb? * +

I only have a 120GB SSD with Win 8.1 and programs on it (no games) and still have 30GB free. But SSDs are a lot cheaper now, and I think, the bigger the size the more chips and the quicker they generally are (?). Personally I would go for 256-480GB so you can put some games on it too. You can get software to move your OS to the new SSD or do a new reinstall. It's fairly easy to do. * +

crucial ssds seem to have great write ups, smasungs seem to have probs, cant see much on kingstons * +

Erm, you could do that. Or just put the SSD in, boot from the Win 8/8.1 install media and install Windows to the SSD. Then you can browse the 750GB drive and delete, backup or move stuff. Obviously you can delete the Windows and program files folders on the old drive. * +

no probs with samsungs here . Have 850 pro 128 gb in both my systems as a boot drive with 250gb 840 pros as data drives . Also have a 830 pro that is 3 years old and had over 15tb of data written to it and its still 100 percent health * +
