What is your opinion on the soundblaster pro 5.1 usb? I want to buy it for use with my laptop and logitech z5500 * +

You mean the Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! Pro? What improvements do you expect from that compared to just using your laptop headphone ports? The Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! Pro is meant to be used with a headset or headphones, not really 5.1 surround speakers. * +

What make and model laptop do you have? Does it have an optical audio output? An optical connection would be by far the best solution if your laptop supports it. * +

No optical, and not the go! Pro. The soundblaster x-fi surround 5.1 pro, it comes with remote, thx certified and has a dial ontop of it for volume. I have the lenovo z570 * +

The speakers are thx certified andbis 5.1 so i just feel using the realtek hd audio on m laptop is wasting the capabilities as it doesnt have dolby, dts or prologic. So i expect an improvement in clarity, i plan to use optic on the speakers and ive heard x-fi soundcards before but only the pci versions. * +

My bad.

Yeah you should notice an improvement in sound quality. 'Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) 100dB'... That should give you an idea of the quality of the sound. You can Google the Realtek chip you have in your laptop and see what the SNR is for it. Plus the Sound Blaster is shielded properly (as it's not even near the motherboard). * +

It has pretty good reviews on Amazon, though it looks like you should download the latest drivers instead of using the ones on the install disk. * +
