Ok, so i load optimum defualts, reboot, go into bios, set the fsb to 400, pc boots, runs perfect, but if i set the fsb to 401 the system doesnt boot, i have msi p43t-c51, q8300, 4gb(2x2gb) ddr2 1066 transcend axe ram, 2x1tb, 2tb, 200gb hdds, 2x pci network cards, dvd rw and gtx 460 1gb, coolermaster 600w psu(this might be a 550w cant remember) any reason for my pc doing this? I tried seting the oc switches from 333 to 400 fsb and then changing the fsb to 401 then same prob, could i be hiting an * +

unlink all your timings. ans set everything manualy. you also want cpu-z * +

also the intel fsb is using somthing called quad pumping. which basicaly means 4xfsb so 4x400 is 1600 fsb you want yours down to 4x266 or 1333 this will give you the headroom to start o.c'n and get the best from all your parts not just the fsb, you want to get the ram as close to rated as possable while maintaining the highest cpu speed depending on the multiplyer that can be anything from * +

the Q8 were always harder to Oc because they have a 1333 base FSB. The board has to support a much higher bus speed to get the same clockspeeds as older chips. Lot of strain on the northbridge, Usually needed more volts * +

do you use the bios to oc it? Normally if its not a extreme edition you will have some stuff that's locked out but some mobos bypass that like the gigabyte ones. Try clocking the bus with speedfan. * +
