make your active root partition about 250MB or 300MB, Also increase your /usr partition to some GBs say 4GB, depends on packages you 'll install. Your error would have been caused by insufficient disk space on /usr partition. * +

Surely u mean fedora? I forget with so many distro floating around! I wud suggest getting a more user friendly distro like pclinuxos as the partitions is just one small hurdle compared to the 'challenges' u will face with linux such as codec support and installing additional software this can be uneasy on new users and ubuntu / suse often don't package drivers for ati and nvidia display cards but are fairly easy to install shud u have an internet connection gud luck! * +
