Van Gaal has done this before. Looked at a player and then decided no. He looked at Clyne, He looked at Otamendi also certainly but most reliable sources insisted that the club were never truly in for them. Pedro United were definitely in for, but then because of the doubts haggled and haggled if he could be had cheaper but then pulled the plug at the last minute. It's likely Chelsea had heard the deal was off and immediately moved.

Pedro I thought would be a very good signing for United but obviously van Gaal thinks differently. For Chelsea he's a good signing but only really a mild upgrade on Willian already there * +
