I don't think it runs all the time. Only for a second when you press the home button to turn on the display and unlock it. besides it even works with gps turned off and just using wifi.

maybe Samsung got smarter than google, I tried it to see if I could set it up for Wi-Fi only a while back but there wasn't an option so I sacked the idea. * +
