Satan and god are just crutches we use to represent the good and evil within all of us. There would still be conflict without religion, but that in of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing. A lot of the progress we have made as humans has come through conflict. What religion does do however, apart from encourage hate, is to restrict some people into rigid ways of thinking and acting. * +

Dolphins gang r*pe, cats torture, that evil wasn't man.
And I think laws have as much to do with heinous acts being curtailed as religion. These days anyway people manipulate religion to be whatever they want it to be, some say if they r*pe or murder someone then it's 'God's will' etc.
Religion is a tool that can be manipulated for great evil, and is so every day. * +
