It has been optional for some decades here in finland. Though the default course is christian religion if no alternative choice is made. * +

Learning about religions is not the same as practicing it. I don't have a problem with my child learning about different religions, but I would have a problem if she was forced to partake in worshipping something she doesn't believe in. * +
