Would we believe a person when they said God communicated to them and his message was blah blah blah? * +

For christianity at least, having a universally accepted written record of God's message protects the religion from insanity. Any crazy person can make any wild claim as God's message but when you have a written and sealed sacred book, that and that only will count as God's message. Consistency. * +
