Unfortunatly Were not Advanced enough yet to tap into a .unused sun. ourselves ,but people's searching for ET are looking for. things like this due to their massive size, compaired to on planet or tiny spaceship sh*t.

that would need us to grind down some really big planets into their raw elements just to have enough material.

No there's enough mass in Mercury to dyson the sun about 50 times or something silly like that. This was a 1m thick swarm so it takes relatively little. * +

It's just the most efficient use of a star that's all, it's expected all advanced civilisations will do this to their home star. * +
