if I remember the sequence as reported correctly, trump had manned flights in Iranian air space AFTER the drone was shot down.

was he looking to have his own men killed to get something started ? * +

And yet Iraq never happened again with Iran. It's obvious Trump had to balance the war hawks in his administration against his isolationist stance and he did it beautifully. Gave them something with Sulimani (honestly who cares a targeted strike frying him is the ideal type of air strike if there has to be one) and strung them along only to pull out at the last second. Which infuriated Bolton and then Trump laughed in his face. Iraq lol, nothing could be further. * +

did it beautifully by being convinced by them up until the last minute. yeah sure.
they could've just as easily not had those jobs.
save me your weak argument about them being in positions of power and influence being better than them not being involved in the decision making process at all. * +

Just because you don't understand how keeping someone close to you and impotent can be more useful than having them on the outside rabble rousing is a tactically better position to be in doesn't make it a weak argument.

Again you're assuming he was convinced to suit your argument. Considering he never went through with it there's no evidence to indicate he was ever convinced. Pulling out late gives your adversary no time to regroup. Anyone without derangement and who's done a little reading up on him wouldn't be surprised by these tactics. But it requires giving credit where credit is due. * +

He made the right decision in the end. That's all that matters. * +

He made the right decision in the end. That's all that matters.

He made the right decision in the beginning as well by bringing in Bolton. All you have to do is look at it from Bolton's perspective. What did he achieve? Nothing except humiliation at the hands of Trump. For whatever irrelevant airstrikes and fighter jet buzzing there was, what there wasn't was a war with Iran. There was no second Iraq in the end. And Bolton was tied up unable to call for one from outside the administration precisely because he was inside with the illusion of power.

If this seems like speculation or a weak argument just look at it from Bolton's view. Ask him if he's happy that he never got his war. It's a lot better argument than being so damaged by Trump's mean words that he can never receive any credit when it's obvious he held the war hawks in check. * +
