my dad drove his wife to the hospital over chronic stomach pain, she turned out to need a live saving operation and he had to put 50 or 60 grand onto his credit card.
he wasn't a fan of the healthcare, great place to be if you've got money not so much if you don't he said.

he flew back to the UK for his surgeries.

Sorry to hear that - I hope they are both ok now. I have heard of others crossing the border to Mexico for superior treatment at a fraction of the price and treatments that are unavailable elsewhere. *
