Extremist religious fundamentalism is on the rise. These people certainly aren't fun but they are most definitely mental

Damage is being done to the historic Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The ancient Imperial Gate(above) was badly damaged recently and extremely fragile historically priceless painted frescos on the walls have now also been damaged by worshipers, who apparently steal and eat the material they scratch and tear off the 'holy'(now holey) building.
Before the UNESCO world heritage site was recently returned to public use as a Mosque by the Turkish gov't, the ancient frescos themselves were considered so fragile and delicate that tourists were banned from using flash photography to take pictures of them, let alone actually touch them.
