Watching a thing on BBC2 about Ken Dod . Very funny man. Not everyone's favourite . Who's your favourite ? Who tells the best story? Who tells the best one liner? * +

Bill Burr is funny to me. there's a clip I've uploaded where he takes on a whole stadium because they've ignored most of comics that went on before him.
he managed to insult the city of Philadelphia for 15 minutes and still get applause from them at the end.

There are thousands of comedians, their acts tend to be short lived. If I just scroll to a letter... J... and pick some I liked...

Jasper Carrot - mastering the family audience
Jimmy Carr - dry, open
Jim Jeffries - engagingly blokeish

I need to see more, I've watched quite a lot of acts, most recently ones staged at The Apollo, but I'm useless with names, can't remember who they were.

Didn't like Manning, and the likes of Calin and Hicks were too protesty-political.

Earliest I remember really was Eddie Murphy (Delirious/Raw) unless you count stuff like The Two Ronnie's, Kenny Everett Show, and of course the afore-mentioned Ken Dodd who's inbred looks scared me off as a kid. * +

most American comics seem to revere a handful as the cream of the crop.
honestly the only one they mentioned that I've heard of is Richard Pryor

I go to quite a few comedy nights, best one I've been to recently had [link]Jessica Fostekew:https://youtu.be/YX3Hvba2CBU[/link] as the headline act. She was pretty good.
Another recent-ish one I went to had [link]Laura Lexx:https://youtu.be/69cxKvKWA84[/link] as support and [link]Paul Tonkinson:https://youtu.be/s4ngL6wTogM[/link] as the headline, but she was far, far funnier than him. Genuinely didn't even crack a smile the whole time he was on, I was mainly just offended by his horrific cheap suit. * +
