They voted on it and decided to make it an english county. But a small bunch of rebels who lost the vote, plus a few corrupted politicians, threw their toys out the pram, pushed for the losing vote to stand, and the move failed.
Worry not though, as the defeated majority made life hell for the traitors and drove them into the sea. * +

i was on a walking tour of castletown, the old capital of the isle of man. The guide said something about, the english invaded the islands and the mayor of castletown. Made a deal that the english could have all the gold in the treasury if they went away and left the island alone. So the mayor gave the keys to the treasury to the english, and the isle of man has been independant ever since. Dont know if its true or not, but thats the stroy on the island
