One of the fields on the old farm is named 'bombholes', it was the site of a ww2 prisoner of war camp which the Germans used to drop bombs on as they were flying over on their way to and from carpet bombing Hull, or ''a northern city'' as they used to call it on the wartime bbc radio broadcasts. To this day you can see the depressions in the field where bombs exploded and there must have been half a dozen unexploded ones ploughed up over the years, including the one by myself 20odd years ago.

If anyone can be bothered to look back through my profile gallery, somewhere near the beginning are some photos of the 800lb bomb that my dog found at the beach and the cause of my second and most recent dealings with an army bomb disposal unit. * +
