South Africas state pension fund would buy Eskom bonds if the government offered them to help refinance the ailing power utility, the Business Times reported.
The company cant be allowed to fail because of the negative impact it would have on the countrys economy, the Johannesburg-based newspaper reported, citing Abel Sithole, principal executive officer at the Government Employees Pension Fund. Eskoms total debt is R419 billion, while the GEPF says it has R1.6 trillion of assets. * +
