i'm ashamed to admit that i don't own any of his releases (other than a few songs i've heard from compilations) where does one start? is there any 'best of' release i can look for? * +

There are a number of Eno compilations, but they're largely box sets, not tasters, so you'd have to be really into the man anyway before getting one. I think a good starting point would be the aforementioned Music For Airports - knowing (roughly) your musical taste I'm pretty sure you'd like it.
