I dont know whose informed you that it will be slow.. But that information is incorrect unless up to 7.2Mbps is classed as slow for a dongle?? However in answer to the OP is your iPhone jailbroken? * +

You can hack they dongle's to run at 15Mbps as they are restricted to work at 7.2.Hacking the dongle would obviously be dependent on make and model though. * +
