the character who's played by Christopher Eccelstone (ex doctor who) was on a mission to prove to the locals that it wasn't actually the rapture..

he posted fliers of the disappeared with the likes of ''he embezzled his clients'' or ''he gambled away his wages while his children started at home''...

the producers of the show have said it isn't the rapture, but they'll never cover what it actually was, as the story is about ''the leftovers'' * +
