sounds similar to HTC's attitude to aftermarket mods, they also offer an unlocking service.
I was confused as the link I posted as a raft of Z1 custom roms so unlocking shouldn't have been impossible for him. * +

I checked with sonys bootloader unlocking software it said to go into them settings where you Dail the number. I did that and it said something like, bootloader unlockebl no I had two Xperia T's in the past. One bootloader could be unlocked but the other one couldn't. * +
