The S4 did get the worst of Samsung's 'bloat' not just in terms of software but it also has a whole lot of sensors that have not made it to many other phones incl. Samsungs own top of the line e.g. Humidity sensor , Temperature sensor, a Gesture sensor etc...it had something like 9 of these sensors, a lot more hardware that it needed, and they were controlled by a specific chip, and I am betting that in most custom ROMs you don't have many apps etc...communicating with that chip and sensors.

Still, my S4 on 5.0.1 runs beautifully, but that may be due to the fact that I formatted it and I don't use it daily. Still a brilliant phone in 2015. * +
