I sort of got the same problem.My fone got back from software repairs but now I cant open some video and music files.I get a 'unable to play clip'.When i go 2 fileman it says 'cannot locate root'.Is there a way 2 retrieve that files? * +

Probably not I'm afraid 
unless you have the original music or video files backed up somewhere else. If taking your phone in for repair you should always back up as much data as possible beforehand. If you have trouble finding any of the music files you've lost, try my 'One Ring..' blog which has links which should find you most mp3s. * +

You don't mention what phone or OS you're using, but you'll probably find that you're best of asking in the dedicated forum for your handset manufacturer.
