yup CDMA is 3G, GSM is 2G, and then sum fones have EDGE which is 2.5G (net access), gsm is gud for signal and quality but cdma is gud for wap/web spead, so realy it all depends on ur needs! * +

CDMA means code divided multiple access based technology and gsm is based on time and/or frequency divided multiple access.No cdma is not 3g.3g is wcdma.Cdma is better than gsm as it is more spectrum efficient,it can handle more calls for a given spectrum,but even it does not fulfill all the criterion of 3g. * +

gsm is far more widespread internationally than cdma. in uk we only have gsm (and wcdma for 3g) so if you want to take your phone abroad go for gsm. don't know if cdma phones will work on wcdma (3g) networks and vice versa though * +
