in a few months time a new version of the Linux OS Debian Wayland will be made available to Raspberry Pi users. it's gonna have a huge upgrade to the way graphics is managed in the LXDE Linux Desktop. at the moment graphics is all done by the CPU and the GPU dosent get used for that except playing video so when you move things around the desktop or open web pages they don't work too smoothly. but on the new Debian Wayland OS everything will be done by the GPU which has a huge amount of processing power compared to the CPU. this means you can expect the kind of performance that PC and Mac users are used to. * +

meanwhile in the current version of Debian Wheezy which you can upgrade to now is much awaited support for sound cards with the new ALSA driver. this means by adding a simple USB sound card to the PI you can have audio playback but also audio recording which wasn't available before. making it possible to edit audio using program's such as Audacity and many other music related applications. * +
