I have a SATA dvd drive that I want to connect to my wife's pc that does not have SATA connectivity on the MOBO? Had a look on uncle google and found a whole lot of IDE to SATA convertors? Are they any good? Which do you prefer? From what I saw the bi-directional convertor will be the best choice? Also, will this increase the data transfer rate,as SATA transfer rates are generally faster than IDE??? * +

If you have a spare pci-e slot you can get a cheap sata card that will slott in and give you a nice fast interface to plug thise sata drives in * +

thanx norega :-) I'm still a bit of a noob at this,so the card goes in the pci slot and then with the SATA cables I connect the SATA drive to it??? Isn't it better though to get convertor and plug directly into normal IDE slot?? Just asking.....??? (smile) * +

you can get an IDE adapter that goes into the PCI slot aswell. * +

You can also buy a kit that will turn an IDE HDD into a USB HDD which is great for backups. * +
