Now obviously I can't guarantee this'll work for everyone, but it works every time on my Samsung tv.

Firstly choose channel 200 and after the 'data service' or 'loading' message has disappeared and you've got the 'Welcome to BBC Red Button' screen, press green then yellow on your remote. Now, using the channel up/down button, change channel briefly, then move back up to channel 200, wait for the 'Welcome to BBC Red Button' screen, press green and you'll see the status screen shown below: *

Now press the green button again and after 30 seconds (which seems interminable in this day and age) you'll get: *

This can be really useful when setting up a new tv and getting brightness and contrast right. Let me know how it goes. *
