I got my hands on a 2ghz iMac G5.with 1GB of ram and a 250GB HDD. My question is can I run Final Cut pro on it. The iMac is meant for studio productions of video and audio. Is the iMac any good. I'm not so clued up on OSX as I am on windows. Should I go ahead an invest in it or rather aim for a Core i5 intel based PC? * +

I see it is using 2 x 512mb ram sticks. suppose we make it 2gigs which seems to be the maximum it can take. what version of Final cut pro will be the most ideal one to get. Currently the iMac is running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. * +

is it a power pc mac or intel? Probably ppc if its running tiger. Click top right corner about this mac. If its intel your ok, if it isnt you will be limited to what software you can run on it because when apple switched to intel in 2006 they dropped support for power pc and a lot of programs dont support it these days. * +

ah sorry I May have misunderstood you are aware its not intel. Forget it power pc macs are a waste of space these days. Get rid. * +

But its gorgeous to look at though, yea its one of those before Apple went intel. The purpose for it was supposed to be video editing and sound editing. Nothing major. But since it only has 1 core even a dual core pc or laptop will be faster I presume. * +

they are nice bits of kit yes. Whether a dual core windows computer is any faster depends on many factors but it will offer the compatibility your power pc mac doesnt. But It is possible to install linux on power pc macs providing you get the right version or distro. That is something iam planning to do with my G4 imac which is also amazing to look at * +

I think i will rather stick to getting a core i3 or i5 for the needs that we have for audio and video as well as projection. But thanks for the input atleast i'm now clued as to how things work and are on the iMac side of things. * +
